I'm Sonia.. a artist, thinker and creative technologist based in Birmingham.
I make films, virtual worlds, installations and occasional acts of creative mischief. Recent work has been exhibited internationally across galleries, festivals, virtual environments and public spaces. My work explores connection, agency, wonder and the possibility of seeing things differently.... I haven't given up on the world, yet.

an immersive 360° digital artwork that explores the paradox of solitude in an increasingly monitored universe. The work invites viewers into a meditative journey through space, where beauty, stillness, and wonder coexist with the persistent presence of surveillance and technological intrusion.
part performance, part sculpture, part public artwork, this public art intervention / mobile light artwork explores how simple acts of illumination can alter perceptions of place.
a poetic short film assembled from a constellation of interconnected microfilms created within Unreal Engine. Developed through an intentionally non-linear process, the work emerged from a series of visual experiments, emotional responses, and speculative encounters that gradually coalesced into a larger cinematic whole.
an immersive VR360 cinematic work that examines perception, control, and the fragile relationship between human agency and technologically mediated realities.
an evolving installation that combines sculpture, participation, humour, and social commentary to explore the persistent imbalance of power in contemporary society.
created during a period of global uncertainty and social isolation, 'the masses' reflected a fundamental desire for connection. While many forms of physical gathering had become impossible, the work proposed an alternative model of togetherness, one built through participation, listening, and shared presence across distance.
an evolving series of digital sculptures that explores identity, agency, conformity, and the illusion of personal freedom within contemporary society. Originally commissioned for Schemata: IDENT at Corsica Studios, the work uses a recurring figure known as the "every-person" to examine the often invisible structures that shape human behaviour and perception.
part archive, part experiment, and part collaborative performance, the project emerged from an ongoing dialogue between artist Sonia Levesque and an AI collaborator affectionately named Howard AI. Together, the pair explored questions surrounding creativity, authorship, consciousness, identity, language, power, technology, and what it means to be human in the age of increasingly capable machines.
initially rooted in photographic experimentation, the series has expanded into installations, virtual environments, prose works, and augmented exhibition experiences. Across each iteration, flowers operate both as visual subjects and as metaphors through which broader questions relating to emotion, transformation, fragility, hope, and resilience are explored.

HI BAB
at the centre of the work lies a city folding back upon itself. Familiar streets and landmarks become fragmented, mirrored, and reassembled, transforming Birmingham into a dreamlike landscape where geography becomes memory and architecture becomes emotion.

in a nutshell...
Main mediums = Photography. VR. Installations. Poetry. Film. Everything overlaps at some point, sometimes at several points. I tend to think of my arts practice as an ever evolvin lil beautiful beast.
