a new year, a new challenge
#2024
...that's the theme of this year's AI Filmmaking hackathon.

Home (to me) is wherever I am, as such it is forever in flux, forever flowing, always evolving... but there are some constants, such as art, music, books, and the hunt for pockets of nature!

The submission deadline for the film is February 18th 2024, 4pm EST. The last artificial intelligence project I worked on was the IWD23 AI&I Gatecrashin' - alpha testing a research preview DALLE model... so, it'll be interesting to dip back in and see how AI tools have progressed.

This challenge also coincides with my current STEAMhouse Artist Studio month, put that together with the Birmingham Hippodrome Creatives, and well, it looks like there's no need to gate crash this year :)

The Space I Call Home
BEHIND THE SCENES
As it happens (sorta!):

UPDATE 14.02.24 11am :: OH NO!!!
High quality problem in the house...

THE GOOD :: The hackathon registrants have exceeded expectations (over 300!) :)
THE HMMM :: As a result, the submission deadline is now 2 hours earlier to accommodate the judging process... eeeeek!

The agenda, turns out remote participants will be able to join the talks via zoom (I had assumed this bit was just for IRL participants) #yay

& the speaker list looks ace: Invited speakers (mit.edu)

...huge shoutout to DeepMotion for the studio membership this month!

Pulled from their newsblast:

DeepMotion is joining forces with the MIT Film Makers Association as a sponsor for the upcoming AI Filmmaking Hackathon on February 18th! Registration is open until February 17, 2024, and you can sign up here: : https://engage.mit.edu/fma/abou
The MIT AI Filmmaking Hackathon, themed "Space I Call Home," welcomes participants both in person and remotely, focusing on video diffusion and 3D animation in the GenAI era. This creative space challenges participants to leverage AI tools for 3D modeling, motion capture, image and video generation, and more to craft compelling films.
DeepMotion has been a go-to AI motion capture tool for creators of all experience levels who are exploring how to combine generative AI technologies (check out this recent project!). By providing free Animate 3D Studio access to the Filmmaking Hackathon for all participants, the team hopes to add a deeper level of creativity to the projects.
As highlighted by Ruihan Zhang, a PhD candidate at MIT Media Lab, "DeepMotion is transforming character animation for everyday users in the GenAI era, making it an invaluable tool for our AI for Filmmaking Hackathon."
Animate 3Dallows creators to produce 3D animation in minutes from any video, featuring full-body markerless tracking, face tracking, hand tracking, and multi-person tracking. It’s the perfect time to check it out with our new Free Animation Credit Program - check it out here!
MIT Filmmakers Association provides opportunities for Massachusetts Institute of Technology students to create films, meet other creators, and learn more about filmmaking through events and workshops.

Fresh shaders be compilin... :)

I haven't used this footage for a shot film yet..... hmmm

DeepMotion Studio Membership means, hello 50 3D models! Whoop whoop :P

(free plan = 3 :))

...but it's the 16th of Feb loooolz teehee...

...ooooooh, it's in early, no need to set the 5am alarm #justsayin

AI Audio Dubbing??? Say whaaat? Alright, ElevenLabs, ya got me, obvs, I gotta give that a go!

ElevenLabs is all like: #done (without even breaking a sweat lolz) #dubbed

You've been dubbed!

Ok, enough distractions... I found a home related poem, and audio2face has been on my list of a while, it got bumped up the list when Nvidia added a livelink option streamed right into UE... setting it up tho (as with most things) has been a pain!! It's one of the reason's I don't use Nvidia... but seeing as we're in 'hackathon' mode, I shall persevere.....!

I can go to sleep a happy lass tonight... Audio2Face -> LiveLink -> UE = affirmative, it's up and runnin (finally)

:)

Whenever I need a refresher on the Take Recorder,
this YT vid is my go to :P

...that's a mic drop moment! ...ah, now I can go back and catch up on all the talks!
