BEHIND THE SCENES

A Spark Of An Idea

19.01.23

Ideas have their own schedules, some are fully formed beings ready for the world, while others require simmering, evolving and mutating time until opportunity meets peak soufflé o'clock.

The initial idea popped up during a STEAMlab @ STEAMhouse: Translating rhythms: designing technology for the more-than-human (Workshop facilitator = Anna Nolda Nagele theposthumanist.com) where included within the presentation section was an image from the Biennale:

A while back, I had an idea for a dinner party story that revolves around ten UN type ambassador species from across the animal kingdom and beyond, they attend a dinner party in order to come to an agreement re how to co-exist peacefully and reverse the planets deteriorating condition.

The idea was inspired by the Refuge for Resurgence by Superflux - a multispecies dining art installation which was part of the Biennale Architettura, La Biennale Di Venezia 2021.

At the time, I wondered what would happen if there was a real multispecies dinner party… what exactly would they eat? And who exactly would still be around to enjoy desert by the time the final course was served?

BWS#02 takes place decades after that dinner party, CONFIT POTATOES is a sort of quick draft sequel to that.

The First Twenty Seconds

13.08.23

Next up there was the INCAS Challenge : Tell a story in 20 seconds. After several dead ends, on 03.10.24 I was reminded of the Key Lime Pie animation... and voilà, the soufflé popped up just a lil bit more!

Here's a snap of that moment via the INCAS Discord Channel:

KEY LIME PIE
In this animated noir, a man's obsession with key lime pie brings him to the brink of insanity and a chance encounter with the grim reaper.

Take a look at what our community can create with their skills in Unreal Engine. How cool is that!

We at INCAS Training are always very proud when we see what skills, experience and a good didactic training can achieve with software like Unreal Engine. The challenge was: Tell a story in 20 seconds.

Extremely good short stories and clips that are a feast for the senses were submitted. And that from people with years of experience in the industry, but also from absolute beginners. We would like to thank all the winners with this trailer!

CHEF ROBO:

The way the chefs hat just waits for the robot and then BOOM it attaches to Robo as he walks into it... I thought that was cool :P
